Q. How old do I have to be to rent a vehicle?

AVIS Rather than requiring customers to be 25 to rent, Avis now rents to customers between the ages of 21-24 with a valid credit card and driver's license. At time of rental, we will automatically apply an additional $25-per-day underage surcharge for these drivers; a $110 surcharge per day for renters age 18-20.

* Minimum age - 18 years (No underage surcharge will apply) with Government Travel or Purchase order
* Minimum age - 21 years (No underage surcharge will apply) no travel or purchase order

Q. What documents will I need to rent a vehicle?

AVIS Avis requires that each customer and additional driver meet the Avis minimum age requirement, present a valid driver’s license and an Avis-honored charge card or cash rental qualification at the time of rental.

Q. What methods of payments can I use?

AVIS Avis Aruba accepts Visa, Matercard, American Express and Discover credit cards as credit identification at the time of rental. Prepaid Debit/Gift/Check cards are accepted at time of return only.

Avis reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to seek an authorization hold when using a credit card. There will be a minimum hold of $1500 over the estimated rental charges on your account.

Upon returning the vehicle, Avis will process a release of the unused portion of the hold subject to your Bank's procedures. The hold may take up to 2 weeks to be released by your bank.

If you fail to return the vehicle as agreed, Avis will obtain additional authorizations from your account to cover the rental charges.

Avis is not responsible for any returned checks or over-drafts based on this policy.

Positive identification in addition to your driver's license may be required.

Q. If I rent a vehicle in my name, can someone else drive it?

AVIS The following individuals, if 25 years of age or older and in possession of a valid driver’s license, may drive the car with the renter’s prior permission:

* Renter’s employer (while on company business);
* Renter’s fellow employee (while on company business);
* Renter’s spouse or life partner.

The above additional drivers are considered “authorized drivers” and need not be present at the time of rental nor do they need to sign an additional driver form.

Other individuals may be listed as additional drivers, provided they are at least 25 years of age; present a valid driver’s license; present an Avis-honored charge card; and complete an additional driver form. A one time fee of $25.00 for each additional driver will be applied.

Q. What do I do if something goes wrong with the vehicle?

AVIS During normal working hours call 582-7202 (you'll find the number on your key chain and on your rental agreement) and the evening from 10:00 pm to 8am you may call 594-5747 and we will address the problem.

Q. How do I arrange to extend my rental?

AVIS Please call the telephone number printed on the top left corner of your rental agreement and we will be happy to help you.

Q. Can I reserve a particular model of vehicle?

AVIS Each car group consist of various models, we will try to accomodate your requirements, however, AVIS is unable to guarantee a specific make/model.

Q. Are there any other charges when renting a vehicle?

AVIS Yes, there is a $ 1.00 AHATA fee and an Airport concession recovery fee of 10% will be applied to all rentals. The AHATA fee is a contribution to the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association.

Also there is a Government value added tax (B.B.O.) of 3% applied to all charges and fees.

These fees are added to rental charges, collected by Avis, and remitted to the applicable association and authorities.

Q. What insurances are included in the rental price?

AVIS Avis provides basic liability coverage for its vehicles as required by Aruban law. This basic coverage consist of a public liability of up to $44390.00 and a property damage of up to $18800.00 This will protect the renter or authorized driver up to the minimum financial responsibility limits required by law at no additional charge. The provided liability coverage is primary to any other applicable coverage. This means the Avis protection is used first and the renters personal liability insurances will apply if the AVIS provided basic liability insurance has been exhausted. Please check with the rental agent if you require more extensive coverage. Additional liability insurance is provided at a premium.

Q. What is Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) and how much does LDW cost?

AVIS The renter is responsible for the full value of the rented vehicle in the event of any loss or damage to the vehicle, even if a credit card insurance coverage is used. The LDW rate depends on the class of car that you rent. A synopsis of the LDW rates are given hereunder:

Renters may purchase loss damage waiver (LDW) that reduces the financial liability for loss or damage to the Avis car as long as they comply with the terms of the Avis rental agreement. Cost of LDW will vary by car group. If you have rental car coverage through your personal insurance or charge card, LDW offers maximum protection while your personal insurance or charge car may contain a deductible.

Q. At what time do I have to return my vehicle?

AVIS The minimum rental charge is for one day and is based on a 24-hour period. Beyond the 24-hour period, an hourly rate will be calculated as ½ of the daily rate plus .01 example daily rate $30.00 hourly rate $15.01, thus if a rental exceeds a 24 hour period by 1.5 hours a 2-day charge applies.

Gas Service: Save yourself time and frustration by adding our Gas Service Option to your next rental. By selecting the Gas Service Option, you can purchase a tank of gas directly from Avis at the time of rental, and avoid the hassle of searching for a gas station to fill the tank before returning the car. The rate per gallon is the same as the gasoline station.

If the Gas Service Option isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, you can choose one of the following refueling options at the time of rental:

Fuel Service: If you decline the Gas Service Option and return the car less than full, you can choose our Fuel Service Option. If you choose the Fuel Service Option and did not purchase gas, you will be charged for the gas used per mile driven at a predetermined higher premium rate. If you choose the Fuel Service Option and purchased gas but the tank is less than full, you will be charged a predetermined higher premium rate per gallon for the fuel needed to fill the tank.

Self-Service: You will purchase fuel just prior to returning and will return the car to Avis with a full tank of gas. If you choose this option, Avis will not charge you for fuel.

Please Note: only the Gas Service Option can be reserved online. If you do not select the Gas Service Option during your online reservation, you can choose a refueling option at the time of rental.

* Fees are assessed and applied at the time of rental.
* Fees are determined by current market value of fuel in Aruba and the fuel tank size of rental vehicle.
* Customer will receive no credit or refund for unused fuel left in tank at time of return.
